Pennies for a Purpose!
We will be collecting donations from Monday, February 6th - Friday, February 10th.  Students will be competing to see which grades can raise the most money and the winners will get 30 minutes of extra recess and a special, yummy, treat!!  This year we will be using the money we raise to send the items collected in our “kids helping kids campaign” to children in Afghanistan.  We will also show our support for our Rocky Hill families who have a parent deployed by sponsoring a “Family Day of Fun” for these families.

Class Group and Spring Individual portraits will be made on the following days:

Ananse!

Mrs. Bertollini and Ms. Boyd coordinated an arts integration project that kicked off on Thursday, January 26th. It was enjoyed by all!!!

Every student who turns in his or her money will get to enjoy a scoop of Bruster’s Blue Pop Italian Ice. (It is dairy free, gluten free, egg free, nut free and Knox County approved!) The best part is that you are helping us earn money! $1 from every sale goes directly to Rocky Hill… that is 50%!!! Yummy, yummy!
Our Afghanistan Children's Drive has been Extended!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who contributed. We have 29 boxes that we are sending to Mr. Smith and his troops! Way to go Rocky Hill!!!
Mr. Smith is still in Afghanistan and doing well.  His troops often go into remote villages in the country and take supplies to them.  They really like to be able to give things to the village children.  We would like to help him!
Please send in new colored pencils (no crayons- they melt!), coloring books with no religious affiliation, or small trinkets.  We will collect these items through Wednesday, February 1st. They will be mailed the following week and should reach Mr. Smith within four to six weeks. What a great way for our children to reach around the world and help others!!!

2011 Spelling Bee!
Our annual Spelling Bee was held on December 14, 2011.  This year, Andy the Armadillo from Texas Roadhouse joined us and participated in the practice round.  He spelled his word correctly, and was rewarded by medals made by our students!

Congratulations to our Spelling Bee Winner, Ansh T.!  This year, our Bee lasted for 14 rounds.  Ansh and Langston H. were the final two spellers.  The winning word was vegetarian.  Ansh will compete in the News Sentinel Southern Appalachian Regional Spelling Bee on March 10.

Rocky Hill Walking Trail Ribbon Cutting CeRAMony
On Friday, August 19th, Rocky Hill celebrated making strides toward better health with the official ribbon cutting of the new Walking Trail. Students, teachers, parents and corporate sponsors met under the balloon arch on the playground to cut the ribbon as the entire 5th grade walked the new trail! Then, throughout the day, kindergarten through 4th grade students participated by walking the trail with their classes during recess. All students received a walking trail t-shirt to wear to help celebrate this exciting day at Rocky Hill. Thanks to everyone for making it a success!
